How to shut off your water or gas valve

💧 Water shut-off

1. Find your shut-off valve. Usually near the water meter, in a basement, crawl space, or utility closet. Look for our blue tag.

2. Turn the valve clockwise until it stops. For a lever handle, turn it perpendicular to the pipe.

3. Open a faucet at the lowest point in your home to release pressure and drain the lines.

4. Call Day & Nite if you can't find the valve, it won't turn, or you need a repair.

⚠️ Flooding and can't shut it off? Call (425) 775-6464 now. We dispatch emergency plumbers 24/7.

🔥 Gas shut-off

1. If you smell gas, leave immediately. Do not flip switches or create sparks. Get everyone out first.

2. Find the gas shut-off valve. Usually on the meter outside your home. Look for our tag.

3. Use a wrench to turn the valve a quarter turn so the handle is crosswise to the pipe.

4. Call Day & Nite and your gas utility. Only a licensed pro should turn gas back on.

⚠️ Strong gas smell? Evacuate, call 911 and PSE (1-888-225-5773), then call us at (425) 775-6464.
